Our Accessible Website Has Launched!

November 9, 2022

Our Accessible website is now LIVE!

BC Studies Inclusive Publishing project aims to provide equal access to all BC Studies content regardless of ability.

Specifically, our goal is to make the journal website and published PDF articles more accessible and inclusive of all our readers, including those with visual, hearing, cognitive, or motor impairments. Our project aligns with UBC’s goal to enhance the accessibility of virtual spaces on UBC campuses for students, staff, and faculty. Our goal is to remove all barriers that can hinder one’s ability to access, navigate, or understand content BC Studies has published in the journal and online.

We were able to hire web programmers at Ecstatic Design to update the journal’s website to incorporate web accessibility functionality including adding alternate text to images, updating headers and navigation, properly tagging content, using descriptive titles for links, and ensuring barrier free keyboard navigation.

Thank you to the Office of Equity and Inclusion and the Dean of Arts for their generous funding!
